The authors claim that Bland, the owner of the property, "...with a laudable zeal and good taste, has preserved this singular and interesting structure..." This might indicate that some restoration had occurred. Archaeologist Peter Harbison indicated that was the case in his 1992 Guide to the National and Historic Monuments of Ireland.
